About Us

Ostrica Nera, a modern restaurant that combines traditional recipes with a contemporary twist has opened its doors in St. Paul’s Bay. Formally known as the Gillieru Restaurant, Ostrica Nera is situated in a prime location by the water’s edge, offering breathtaking views of the bay. The restaurant is the brainchild of Daniel Borg, Karl and Kenneth Micallef, who, as co-owners of the Gillieru Restaurant, have an impressive culinary background and are well known in the local catering industry scene.
The building that now houses Ostrica Nera has a rich history, and has always been a popular dining destination for locals and tourists alike. The Gillieru restaurant had been open for more than a century, serving traditional Maltese cuisine with seafood
and fish as its known specialty.
The Gillieru Management envisioned this as the opportunity to create something innovative and exciting in the space. They wanted to honour the restaurant’s rich history while also bringing a fresh perspective to the dining experience. Our Head Chef and his team have designed a menu that is in itself a culinary celebration, using locally sourced ingredients to create unique and flavourful dishes. The restaurant also has an extensive wine list, with a focus on Local and International wines.
The interiors of Ostrica Nera are modern and stylish, with sleek lines and a minimalist colour palette. The restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the bay. The outdoor seating area is perfect for al fresco dining, with a gentle breeze from the sea and the sound of the waves lapping against the shore.
